“I recently did one of those Ancestry DNA tests—you know, that test where you send in a small capsule of your spit and a hundred bucks and they send you back a multi-page, full color profile that tells you who’s been swimming in your personal gene pool,” said the Rev. Dr. Bob Kaylor at “Transformed! the Wesleyan Covenant Association’s Fourth Global Gathering” at Asbury United Methodist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Saturday, November 9, 2019. “It used to be that if you had a striking physical resemblance to one of your parents or grandparents that people would say that you were their ‘spitting image’ — who knew that we would one day use actual spit to found out why!”
In a deeply personal and beautiful mediation on God the Creator and our call to be his adopted royal sons and daughters, Kaylor, senior pastor at Tri-Lakes United Methodist Church in Monument, Colorado, went on to say, “One of Ancestry.com’s slogans is, ‘Everyone has a fascinating story. We’ll help you find yours.’ Well, our goal is to help everyone find themselves in the story. Friends, you are royalty. Your destiny has always been to be a part of the royal family of God. Look around at these people — indeed, look at anyone closely and you can see the family resemblance (faint though it may seem at the moment)! This is the good news we proclaim to all those who wrestle with their identity, who think they are a mistake: the king has been looking for you, lost though you may have been, to give you a royal inheritance of abundant, eternal life.”
